THE DAVID PIFER MEMORIAL LECTURESHIP

ABOUT THE LECTURESHIP
The David Pifer Memorial Lectureship is named in memory of local scientist and attorney Dr. David Pifer. Dr. Pifer was a man of faith who paved new roads in the fields of science and health that have been of benefit to society. He served in many roles locally at both UT Medical Center and Baptist Memorial Hospitals. A scholar of science, he also had a deep love for Israel and the issue of Jewish-Christian relations was dear to him. The Pifer Lectureship now brings in special speakers who address subjects of faith, science and culture for the benefit of the community.

Dr. D. David Pifer
(1941-2002)
Scientist, Clinical Laboratory Safety Expert,
Attorney and Educator

David Pifer, Ph.D., J.D., was a professional man with a deep devotion to God and an extensive record of public service. Dr. Pifer held multiple degrees, including a B.S. from the University of Mississippi (Oxford), a Ph.D. from the University of Mississippi Medical Center (Jackson), and a doctorate in Law (J.D.) from the University of Memphis. He was a member of the Tennessee Bar Association as well as Phi Kappa Phi, a national scholastic honor society.

Dr. Pifer published extensively in scientific and clinical journals, and he was awarded (along with two other researchers) a patent for cryopreservation (freeze drying of blood platelets). He was a lecturer for the World Safety Organization, and chaired numerous safety committees. Throughout his career he served in various roles with the University of Tennessee Medical Center, the Health Science Center, and the Baptist Memorial Medical Centers.

Dr. Pifer was a man of science and a man of faith. He served the scientific community but also loved the Jewish and Christian communities as well. He was truly a Ger Tzaddik, a Righteous Gentile. B’rit Hadasha is pleased to present this event in memory of our dear friend David, whom we all miss. May his memory abide forever.
