Cleaning the House, Pt 1
So it’s time to clean the house…. No, not just because it is spring— which it is—but because Pesach, or Passover, is fast approaching. The day of Passover is immediately followed by the Feast of Unleavened Bread, a time rich in significance for us in Messiah. So, yes, we concentrate on the spiritual significance of the search for and removal of “leaven” from our homes.…
Faces of the Kingdom: Esther
Let’s meet a woman whose courageous choice at a royal banquet saved an entire nation. Esther, a Jewish orphan who became a Persian queen, faced an impossible decision…to remain silent and safe, or to speak up and risk everything. Picture the scene…wine flowing at a royal banquet, the king’s favor evident, and Haman seated in what he believed was a place of special…
Faces of the Kingdom: Joseph
Welcome back to our “Faces of the Kingdom” series! Today we meet a young man whose colorful coat would lead to the darkest betrayal, and one of the most stunning examples of God’s providence in the Bible. These mocking words from Joseph’s brothers set in motion a journey from a pit to a prison to a palace…a journey that would reveal God’s…
Worshiping G-d
We didn’t have Shabbat School last week, due to the winter storm in the area. If we had, we would have read about the Children of Israel worshipping at the Red Sea. Worshiping G‑d is not an activity reserved just for adults during services; actually, it should be reflected throughout our lives and include the lives of our children. We want to help the children…
Hearing and Obeying
This week in Shabbat School, we talked about Moses coming before Pharaoh and asking him to let Adonai’s people go. In life, G‑d sometimes repeats His messages because we don’t listen the first time. Usually, His initial communication is gentle, but if we ignore it, He will use other means to get our attention, often through uncomfortable circumstances. In this Parashat,…
Faces of the Kingdom: Ruth
Welcome back to our series exploring the people of the Bible! Today we’re meeting someone really important…Ruth, a foreign widow whose radical declaration of faith would place her in the lineage of the Messiah Himself. These words, spoken on a dusty road between Moab and Bethlehem, would echo through history, coming from a widow who had every reason to turn back, but…
Mapping the Exodus
This past week at Shabbat School, we started the book of Shemot (Exodus). We began to give the account of one of the most important stories for the people of Israel to this day: the start of the Hebrews’ freedom from captivity in Egypt and G‑d’s care and provision during the Exodus. More than just a biblical story, we want our children to understand that these…
Sharing a Blessing
In Shabbat school last week, we talked about blessings and curses. We learned how Jacob, when he was nearing the end of his life, had a special blessing for his sons and his grandsons, Ephraim and Manasseh. In a world full of jokes, insults, envy, and bullying, we want to help children understand how much their words can impact others’ lives. That’s why Yeshua…
Faces of the Kingdom: Adam and Eve
As we step into a new year, we’re beginning a new blog post series exploring the people of the Bible, both characters you may know a lot about and maybe some who are still a bit of mystery to you! Now, where better to start than at the beginning itself? Today we meet the first humans—Adam and Eve—whose story reveals the truth about God’s heart for humanity.…
We are Blessed
Building G-d’s story last Shabbat, we observed that G-d used not only Joseph, but also his brother Judah. Judah chose to be Chazak (Courageous) and protect his younger brother Benjamin. Unbeknownst to him, G-d would turn his previous poor decision into a blessing. In the end, Judah’s decision to show Chazak!—courage to stand up for his brother—inspired our children…
Be Courageous!
It was incredible celebrating Hanukkah together in our Shabbat School! We excitedly shared the story of Hanukkah and discovered that Yeshua celebrated it too! We enjoyed delicious donuts, played with a beautiful wooden Hanukkah Menorah, and learned the meaningful Hanukkah prayers. It was truly a joyful and memorable experience! This Shabbat, we will continue the story of…
